More about the release

"The Deer (2025) is an adaptation of the first chapter of my novel with Generative AI video. My novel The Deer was once called a surrealist piece written in a realist mode and this, too, seems to be the modus operandi of GenAI—to piece together photorealistic archetypes with the associative turns of dreamlogic. In creating this work, I realized it captured a portion of the reader's experience: just as GenAI bases its creation on countless training media of deer, roads, and trees, so too does a reader of this scene piece together an image of it from flashes of their memories. But how are these images pieced together? Where does one image begin and the other end? These are the questions both GenAI and The Deer help us interrogate."
